The likely heir to the British throne, Prince William, has stated that he’d like to join the British Army and would not want any special treatment from his commanding officers. He’d like to be on the front line:
The prince said being second-in-line to the throne would present problems if his unit was sent into action, but he would not want to be held back.
“The last thing I want to do is be mollycoddled or wrapped up in cotton wool because if I was to join the army, I’d want to go where my men went and I’d want to do what they did,” he said.
Currently, the front line of battle is in Iraq. It remains to be seen if Prince William would actually end up there (I would doubt it), but the statement is important. While the BBC has tried to make the world believe that Prime Minister Tony Blair has forced Britain into a conflict his countrymen do not support, apparently the heir to the crown is standing with Blair and his brethren in the Coalition of the Willing.
