Angered at the fact that ESPN.com is forcing people to pay for so-called “Insider” reports on the teams in the NCAA Tournament, Charles Schumer has vowed to obstruct the NCAA Tournament’s third round games, slated to be played on Thursday and Friday of this week, until ESPN affords the Senate an opportunity to advise and consent on the president’s bracket selections.
Charles Schumer noted that the Senate needs to be the “cooling saucer” for tournament picks so that the president doesn’t get too emotionally involved and, thus, put home team Texas in the Final Four. Schumer has said that the Republicans wish to turn the nation into a “banana republic.” Calls to clothing retailer Banana Republic’s legal department were not returned. We wished to ask them if they planned to sue for libel, but got only their recorded message: free shipping on online orders of $125 — about two tee shirts — or more.
Harry Reid is considering just shutting the NCAA down for awhile. Senator Bill Frist of Tennessee has said that the Republicans are considering a rule change to proclaim all sixteen second weekend qualifiers national champions. Democrats are calling this the ‘nuclear option.’
(Update #1 12:28pm CST) Eric Adds: Massachusetts Senator John Kerry just wrapped up an interview on MSNBC where he proudly proclaimed, “I actually picked UW-Milwaukee, before I picked Alabama.” Earlier in the interview, Kerry criticized losing Georgia Tech coach Paul Hewitt for having the right game plan, but not getting the message across clearly to his players. The Yellow Jackets lost 76-54 to the Louisville Cardinals in a game that was never close.
