Kanye West alters lyrics for Telethon

All eyes were on Kanye West tonight at a live Telethon for Hurricane Katrina relief. The rapper caused controversy on his last Telethon appearance with racial charged remarks about the president. Program organizers had said they will not censor political comments from the telecast.

In addition to some comments about not being able to imagine being homeless or without his family, Kanye West DID send out a hidden message. He changed a line in the song he performed, “Jesus Walks”, to indicate that he hasn’t changed his mind.

The original line was:

They say you can rap-about-anything except for Jesus
That means guns, sex, lies, video tapes
But if I talk about God my record won’t get played, Huh?

The altered line on Friday’s Telethon was:

They say you can rap-about-anything except for Jesus
That means guns, sex, lies, video tapes
But if I speak the truth my record won’t get played, Huh?

This certainly isn’t as inflammatory as his earlier remarks, but it will probably slide under the radar.

MORE KANYE: Apparently he was on the Ellen DeGeneres show this morning:

He said, “Back in the days when it was time to clean the kitchen I would try to sweep the dust under the kitchen sink instead of really taking care of it, and if you spilled something on that floor all that dust came right up in front of your face. That’s basically what the flood did.

“They have been trying to sweep us (African-Americans) under the kitchen sink and it was so in people’s faces and so on TV… that they couldn’t even hide it any more.

“Down there, people are living below the poverty level to start off with, before this happened.

“A year ago I was on tour with USHER and we had a hurricane hit Florida and everybody was saying, ‘If this hurricane went to Louisiana, if it went to Mississippi, they wouldn’t be able to handle it.’ (That was) a year ago - and there was nothing done about it.”

Drudge had reports that he was Booed during last nights NFL pre-game show:

‘THE BIG BOO’ CROWD HISSES KANYE WEST
Fri Sep 09 2005 10:30:28 ET

The chart topping hip hop rapper star who used a network hurricane fundraiser to charge “George Bush doesn’t care about black people” was loudly and lustily booed during last night’s NFL kickoff show.

The appearance of Kanye West, who was beamed into the Boston stadium via remote from Los Angeles, received a strongly negative response from the crowd.

“The boos were thunderous and lasted for much of his number,” reports the BOSTON GLOBE.

  1. Was anyone even watching this punk? Who would know if he changed the lyrics. 95% of the audience probably hadn’t even heard of him until last Friday night.

  2. This no name con man is just promoting himself. He doesn’t care about the hurricane victims. He only cares about his career, his cd sales and his own ego. Where is Oprah and why isn’t she asking this opportunist to apologize to the American public for using the “Katrina Catastrophe” to sell his cd’s? I am just speaking the truth!

    Comment by Kanye The Opportunist! — September 9, 2005 @ 11:08 pm

  3. Oprah is down there. She’s also taking advantage of the situation to get more publicity for herself as well.

When I see Oprah standing side-by-side with Jesse Jackson, blaming and pointing fingers, it destroyed any credibility she may have had in my eyes.

  4. God bless you Kanye West and Oprah.

    Kanye and Oprah.

  6. What truth are you speaking of?

George Bush, late last week, asked Congress of $62 billion in aid to get the clean up and reconstruction started.

    Wasn’t that enough for you?

George Bush has a full plate. He’s going to need more money for the war; he’s going to need full agreement for not one, but two Supreme Court justices in the coming months. He’s going to need a lot of help with his social security reform as well. Do you think that he’s “dis-in’” blacks and their representatives in Congress and still expecting their help to further his agenda?

I doubt it. If anything, he’ll go overboard to make sure the blacks and poor get everything they need and then some.

    Comment by nonya — September 10, 2005 @ 8:30 pm

  7. You can bet that after its all over and done with, most blacks in that affected area will be far better off than they were before the hurricane hit. Most of them now have $2000 more in their pockets than they did two weeks ago.

    That’s a lot of Colt 45, sister.

    Comment by nonya — September 10, 2005 @ 8:32 pm

  8. Of course he’s gonna go overboard…the president got called out.

$2000–that’s nothing. I could spend that in a day.

Colt 45? No thanks, I don’t drink. Besides, that’s cheap.

    Comment by Anonymous — September 10, 2005 @ 11:47 pm

  9. You are an idiot.

The president did not get called out. He did was was needed.

Chalk up another liberal for standing in the way of progress.

but i do see what your getting at..
its messed up how whenever a black person speaks there mind they got to be crazy as hell, ingorant, or better yet a “punk pulling the race card”. now i recall a couple of baseball players making just the rudest racist comments what happens fine them a few dollars and make em apologize then *poof* the thing up and dissapears.. Kanye West made a comment that was put out by the media ANYWAY and “that nigga is crazy! he ruined this, he out for more sales blah blah blah” now celine dion crying on tv talking about how she feels and (the real idiot) asks her to SING how she feels?! are u serious?! but nobody says a damn thing about that now is it because Kanye is black that this whole thing is getting posterized?… thats the real question. now everything the man does is “sturring up” something he changed some lyrics SO! damn i didnt know you couldnt use freedom of speech unless you got a V.I.P card, wait a minute… damn mine expired gotta go

  14. Hey, kKanyes remarks, whether you like them or not, were actual facts (if they were facts there would be proof. There is no proof that George W. Bush hates black people). so why dont people embrace him and o<(O)prah for what their (they’re) sayin. 15. Kanye West made a comment that was put out by the media

How stupid are you? Or better yet, how stupid do you think we are?

His comment wasn’t “put out by the media.” He hijacked a benefit telethon, when he deviated from the script. He stole valuable air time. He was supposed to read something that was especially written to convince people to give money for a worthy cause. What he did was take money away from that effort, ultimately causing the very people he sells his music to to lose funding, resources, and hope.

If he has an opinion he should find someone who cares, who can get his word out. He could easily go on Oprah, BET, or use his music.

He’s a spoiled punk plain and simple.

I truly hope it causes his “career” to tank.

Actually, Asian is not a race.

There are three pure races in the world. Negroid, Caucasian, and Occidental (Oriental). It’s based upon genetic make up.

    Guess which one you are.

Who many times did everyone have to read this post before it made any sense?

    I’m up to six.

It’s about time people(*blacks)should be surporting kanye for he is tell bush off.
Kanye West speaks for all black people? I doubt it. If he does then how smart are they to listen to this punk?

it’s not about the hurricane victims its the thought of how long it took bush to react to the situtation(5 days after Hurricane)
George Bush reacted TWO DAYS BEFORE the hurricane hit, telling the white/female/Democrat governor that she had a blank check from the federal government to do what she needed to to get everyone out. Is two days before too long to react? GWB also had troops ready, supplies ready, and help and support ready before the storm hit, but they were told to stay out of New Orleans. Is that his fault? Does that mean he hates black people? Maybe in your Bizarro World.

thw reason why kanye west made his statment because sine New Orleans is mostly populated by blacks he did react as soon as he would if florida was hit. i got more the say but be pround for someone is standing up to bush and stop “player hating”

The storm didn’t cause all the damage. It was the flood that happened two days afterward that caused the vast majority of the damage and most of the flooding.

If the people were stupid enough to stay (the vast majority of New Orleans residents did get out) when a Category 5 hurricane was eminent, then they kind get what they deserve.

Quick a hurricane, the likes of which have only hit the United States twice before in history; that is a Category 5 hurricane is coming. You can stay and have less than a 50-50 chance of living through it, or you can get out and save your life, what will you choose?

Oh, and by the way, the mayor and governor will not do anything to help in any way. Still staying?

And one final thing. The black mayor of New Orleans has told rescue workers to keep all food and water from the Superdome because it’s a magnet for all the people to come and get help. You still staying?

Those of you who think you understand the enormity of this disaster and that one man can wave his magic wand and keep everyone safe and happy (if he chooses), haven’t got a clue. And to those of you who believe that that punk who hijacked a network telethon to raise millions of dollars to rescue those very people he says the president hates did the right thing, spend some time thinking about it. Stop listening to those who don’t have anything positive to add to the situation.

    Huh?

How is anyone supposed to believe anything that follows the above statement?

    Comment by Bull — September 13, 2005 @ 3:39 pm

  21. Hey kanyes remarks, whether u like them or not, were actual facts

What one thing did he say that was a FACT?

George Bush hates black people? How does he know. How is that a fact?

The government is set up to help blacks and poor people as slow(ly) as possible? How is that a FACT? Is that written down someone where at FEMA?

When the media shows a black person coming out of a story with a brand new plasma screen television, wading up to his waist in water, and is called looting that’s not a fact? His family needed that television to survive?

The media didn’t show any democrats or blacks or poor people in a light that was not what was acutally happening. Did they have a black actor from Hollywood come in and pose for those pictures? If you don’t call it looting, what do you call it?

Just because he said they were facts doesn’t make them facts. They make him a liar.

oh really well i have the chicago news paper that has EXACTLY what he had “lied” about on it so your right the MEDIA is the liers

Do you know the difference between a FACT and an OPINION?

You have absolutely no way of knowing if George Bush hates black people unless he says so himself.

One newspaper does not make the media. AND has anyone bothered to check with West’s manager to see just how much he was able to give?

Why on earth would he need his manager to tell him how much he could give unless he was going to give his entire “fortune” to the cause?

He could easily have donated a million dollars. He surely has that at the huge celebrity/rap/hip-hop artist that he is. But no. Sadly, we’ve never heard what the manager said. And the MEDIA has failed to report it.

    Comment by Bull — September 14, 2005 @ 6:17 am

  24. now i recall a couple of baseball players making just the rudest racist comments what happens fine them a few dollars and make em apologize then *poof* the thing up and dissapears

Are you talking about John Rocker, of the Atlanta Braves who made a comment about New Yorkers on the subway?

Nothing happened to him? He lost his job and his ability to make millions of dollars. He was spit on and had things thrown at him where ever he went. Nothing happened to him? What happend to him was just what he deserved for his comments and his attitude.

Are you speaking of not a player but a general manager as in Al Campanis of the Dodgers who wasn’t fined, but was fired, for what were construed to be racial comments, ruining his 40+ year career in professional baseball? Nothing happend to him, right? Again, he got what he deserved.

What do you mean “POOF” they disappeared. What do you want to have happen? Do you want them to be made an exaple of and their corpses hung from a flag pole. It’s over. Get over it. They’ve paid the ultimate price in losing their jobs and their lifestyles for their words.

Trent Lott of Mississippi lost his position in the US Senate for comments he made at a birthday party.

Jimmy-the-Greek lost his job at CBS for racial comments and the whole fiasco ultimately cost him his life.

Rush Limbaugh lost a choice gig on ESPN because he made a comment about a black quarterback.

The list is a long one. People don’t just pay a fine and “POOF” it disappears.

Yet, when a black punk hijacks a benefit telethon to deliver a racially charged tirade, nothing happens to him. Interesting.

    Comment by Bull — September 14, 2005 @ 6:28 am

  25. Face it, Bull,

There is a lot of hatred out there. There is a lot of hatred for George W. Bush.

Anything that happens in the world is HIS fault and he shoudl be held accountable for EVERYTHING that goes wrong in this country. Even if he has no control over it, like a hurricane, for crying out loud, he should have built a force field around New Orleans before the levy broke.

The liberal democraps and blacks and poor people have nothing but a hatred for the president because HE is the one responsible for all the evil in the world.

No matter what happens, the first thing liberals do is figure out how George Bush was involved and how is diabolical plan was conceived to punish blacks, poor people, democrats, or some other down trodden minority group.

It’s laughable. Or it would be if the media didn’t do the same thing.

The left needs to realize that they lost a freakin’ election (twice). They are the definition of “poor losers.”

For years they were led to believe that Bill Clinton was the second coming of Christ and that he could do no wrong.

How warped of a sense of reality do they have? When someone like George Bush comes into office bringing dignity, humility, intelligence, competence, and respect back to the Oval Office, they long of the days of blowjobs under the desk, stolen documents, indictments, impeachments, mysterious murders, scandals, and an unelected woman making policy for the country.

Someone should tell them that it’s no longer “Opposite Day.”

    Comment by Stew — September 14, 2005 @ 6:41 am

  26. I typed in to google “reasons why George Bush hates black people.”

All I got was a bunch of liberal blogs and websites with no substantial evidence at all that GWB hates blacks.

Saying George Bush hates black people is like saying Bill Clinton hates cigars. There is no evidence to support either claim.

    Comment by Dave — September 14, 2005 @ 7:54 am

  27. Wow, Bull just came in here and owned everone.

And by the way, about the white/female/democrat governor. Yeah, the feminists and the ::gasp:: blacks (who generally vote democrat in the state of LA) are the ones who put her in power. Hey, guys, you know that blank check GW offered her? She said, “No thanks.” And the sick patients stuck at Tulane Med School, starving and dying of thirst? Yeah, black gangs in the streets pinned down the individuals trying to get them food and water with small arms fire. Eventually they had police snipers come in to offer cover. And the Black Hawk helicopters trying to drop aid packages to those “poor and stranded people” who stupidly decided to stay behind, regardless of the warnings? Yeah, they had to withdraw because black gang members opened fire on them.

Kanye fans, those are “the facts.” Do what you like with them.

    Comment by Mr. Smith — September 24, 2005 @ 3:02 pm

  28. Why do you suppose those thugs were firing upon the very people who offered to help?

It’s easy. Because they wanted the entire city to themselves to loot, steal, rape, and pillage.

New Orleans was already the most dangerous city in the country before this disaster.

Most white people got out a long time ago.

I’m ashamed of the way so many people reacted to this disaster. There is no reason for them to blame the federal government for their plight. George Bush did not cause their poverty. He did not cause the hurricane. He did not cause them to be ignorant. You can blame that on the local government which is and always has been democrat.
